14/03/2025, Shelterwood review V1

I listeneed to this horror pdocast known as shelterwood, and I really liked it. But I guess the ending really disapointed me. Im not goign to explain the plot of the podcast in this blog post, you can search it up online if you want to, I reccomend lsitneing to it its pretty good! DONT READ THIS BLOG UNLESS YOU WANT SPOILERS!!! So lets highlight some of my issues and some of the things I liked about this podcast. Pro: Solomon and Nick's voice acting, these two characters voice acting was really good and I really did feel distraught at the final episode hearing solomon cry like that. Pro: The world building, I loved the world built up, the endless buildings of suburbia, it was really good. Cons: Side characters, I personally felt as though these characters wasnt developed enough, and there were a ton of loos ends, Like why was the girls parent up at night?? what is going on there, Why was this palce made, what was william doing?? It was really confusing and I feel the sidecharacters needed to be devloped upon more. Actually this con leads to one of my biggest issues, the ending. I dislike the ending, essentially the eneding is telling us to expect loosends. But to say that, the loose ends should be ummm.. I cant explain it, lets take an example so that I can explain. Taking one of my favourite books of all time, house of leaves, there were plenty of loose ends in that book but reading the story it felt as though thats how the story was supposed to be communicated, throughout that book I understood that there were no answers to be found. However in this podcast, it didnt feel like that at all, there was nothing in the story to tell the listener that loose ends are part of this story, that part about accepting loose ends came like a random bird steeling your fries at the beach. It was just unexpected, and was not deserved. And I have read books where the ending was unsatsfactory, supposed to feel empty and devoid of any meaning but those books built up that ending made it feel deserved throughout the story,unfortuantly this story didnt. And lets talk about worldbuilding, I WANTED TO SEE MORE OF shelterwood, I loved the concept of sholterwood, I loved listening to explorations of shelterwood. And i needed more explanation of shelterwood, a bit more indepth understanding of the place. Going back to my house of leaves example once again, we the reader virtually have no idea as to what the house actually is, but there were clues and hints throughout the story, a bit of inevstiagtion into the background of home, a hint that it was just there forever. Shelterwood didnt provide any hints around the world itself, im all up of unexplainable mysteries just build up the fact that its supposed to be a unexplainable mystery.. ( Actually, maybe it did and I forgot..if the podcast did please tell me and ill delete this issue). Anyway I wouls give this podcast a solid 8/10, I know this review made it seem as though I disliked this podcast, but no I did like it, im just dissapointed at the ending. I know its irrational but I feel cheated? Like I lost a good story, a good ending. But if this ending is like a build up to a season 2 then uhhh ignore this rant. Anyways byeeeeee,N
